Dr Natalie Coope

I am a clinical psychologist, experienced and accredited to support people to overcome a range of difficulties through psychological therapy. I have over a decade’s experience working in the NHS and, in my current role, co-lead a busy HIV and Sexual Health Psychology service in London. I specialise in supporting people to enhance their sexual wellbeing and communication, and to find ways that are meaningful for them to connect with others.
Alongside my NHS role, I offer individual and group therapy to adult clients in my private practice, and supervision and/or consultation to other professionals and teams. I am trained in a number of therapeutic models and will draw on a range of ideas and techniques to find a way of working that fits for you and your therapy goals. I am deeply committed to my practice being affirmative and inclusive for people of all genders, sexualities, relational styles, racial identities, and religious and cultural backgrounds.

Some of the reasons people seek therapy with me are:
- Any difficulties associated with living with a sexual health condition such as HIV or herpes simplex, including adjusting to diagnosis, taking medication, experiences of stigma, talking with others about the condition, and navigating sex and relationships
- Psychosexual difficulties, such as painful sex (including vaginismus and vulvodynia), low sexual desire / libido, erection difficulties, ejaculation difficulties, and anorgasmia
- Reflecting upon and navigating relationships, including for gender, sexuality and/or relationally diverse people
- Rediscovering intimacy following trauma
- Significant life events, e.g. bereavement and loss, ending of relationships
- Life and role transitions, e.g. transition to parenthood, beginning and end of relationships, menopause, retirement
- Anxiety (including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, and panic attacks), stress, burnout, post-traumatic stress disorder and/or low mood

Psychological models I am trained in:
Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy (including Advanced Tree of Life), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TFCBT), and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET).
What to expect:
I offer a 90-minute initial consultation in person (in my therapy room in Brighton) or online. During this appointment I will ask you about your current difficulties as well as your hopes for therapy. I will also ask you some broader questions to help me understand more about your context and support needs. I will also explain more about how I work, you can ask me questions, and we can think together about whether individual therapy with me, or one of the therapy groups that I offer, might be a good fit for you. If your needs would be better met by another therapist or service, my aim would be for us to think together about alternative options for you.
If, after your initial consultation, you decide to continue to have therapy sessions with me, I offer sessions in person (in Brighton) or online. Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes each. You can decide to have as many or as few individual sessions as you wish and we can talk together at the beginning (and throughout) about how many sessions I would recommend based on your preferred outcomes. I also offer a small therapy group for people wanting to re-connect with themselves, and establish supportive links with others, following the end of a relationship.

Fees and working days (in-person or online):
- 90-minute initial consultation = £150
- 50-minute individual therapy session = £120
- Tree of Life therapy group: Reconnecting with ourselves post break up (3 x 3-hour sessions; 4-6 people max) = £400
My usual working day is Friday (some groups offered on a Saturday afternoon).
